Zakka Home Book Tour!

Hello and welcome to the Homemakery and my spot on the Zakka Home Book Tour!

Zakka Home is the long awaited second book from Sedef Imer and the follow up to her first book Quilt Petite. Lets be honest there are a lot of craft books out there (I mean a lot) but when my copy of Zakka Home arrived I was blown away by the stunning photography (its a gorgeous book to flick through, coffee table gorgeous) but also the projects are pretty and practical and as someone who loves making things for my home I was smitten on my first flick through!

Having just had a baby I was a little nervous about committing to a new project not knowing whether I would be able to find the time to complete it, but once I started flicking through Sedef’s stunning book I wanted to make ALL the projects, they are all so gorgeous!

I eventually narrowed it down to the Bouquet Embroidery on page 28 knowing I could easily pick it up when I got a couple of spare minutes. I photocopied the pattern from the back of the book and using a Frixion pen traced it onto some plain Lecien embroidery fabric. I selected my own colour palette of embroidery threads (3813, 989, 561, 815, 224, 962, 3809) and got stitching.

All the embroidery stitches you use for this pattern are illustrated in the book so if you are a beginner or need a quick reminder of how to do a stitch they are all there to hand.

I really enjoyed stitching this project in the evenings when the baby was tucked up in bed, it was lovely to get some well deserved me time!

When I had finished my embroidery I gently ironed the back to get rid of any remaining frixion pen marks and then wrapped bias binding around the hoop to finish it off. It now hangs proudly in my guest room, my first post baby project!

It certainly won’t be my last as Sedefs book is filled with adorable projects for the home in mouthwatering pretty fabrics. Do check out Zakka Home on Amazon as they have the look inside feature so you can take a peek for yourself at the projects and the stunning photography inside.

Win: Liberty London Cottage Garden Fabric Bundle

We do love a new fabric arrival and the brand new Liberty London Cottage Garden collection is perfect for a spot of spring sewing.

Inspiration for the Liberty Cottage Garden collection comes from the beautiful villages of Buckinghamshire. This area of English countryside is where Arthur Liberty escaped from his London city life. The thatched cottage gardens burst with colourful floral displays filling the winding roads with charm and delight.

Flowers featured in the prints include forget-me-nots, bluebells and anemones. The colour palettes include warm dusty pinks, coral tones mixed with denim and cornflower blues. The warmer, neutral tones are inspired by the stone paths on local walking trails.

You can find the full Liberty Cottage Garden bundle with 15% off here and to celebrate the collections release we are giving away a bundle of 12 of the blue toned fabrics from the Cottage Garden collection worth £42.

To be in with a chance of winning simply enter using the Rafflecopter Giveaway below.

Quilt Petite Blog Hop

Hello and welcome to the Homemakery and my spot on the Quilt Petite Blog Hop!

Quilt Petite Blog Hop Square

I have long been a fan of Sedefs blog, Down Grapevine Lane, along with her recent fabric collection Sweet Orchard for Riley Blake.  I was delighted to learn she was turning her talents to a book and was thrilled to get my hot little hands on a copy. If you are familiar with Sedefs blog you will know she has such an incredible eye when it comes to pretty fabrics and unique patchwork projects, you won’t be disappointed with Quilt Petite which is packed full of gorgeous projects, extremely thorough instructions and stunning photography.

Quilt Petite

With sweet projects a plenty in Quilt Petite for my turn on the blog hop I settled on making a Pretty On Point Placemat from Page 77 of the book. I followed Sedefs lead and picked some pretty florals from the Lecien Hight Tea collection which I paired alongside subtle low volume prints in a soft dove grey.

This project will have you whipping up half square triangles to create a gorgeous on point patchwork pattern, a nice twist on traditional half square triangle placements.

I was thrilled to find the placemat was a perfect fit for my tray!

Lovely Little Patchwork – Blog Hop

Hello and welcome to the Homemakery and my spot on the Lovely Little Patchwork Blog Hop!

Kerri Horsley Blog Hop Cover

I was delighted to be asked to join in Kerri Horselys blog hop for her book Lovely Little Patchwork. The book was released back in the spring and is packed full of adorable sewing projects.

cover-1

When I saw Kerri’s book I fell in love with the cover for her cross stitch rose sewing book,

IMG_4574

a cross stitch rose on gingham….incorporated into a spot of patchwork….. all my favourite things in one!

Rather than making the sewing book I decided to turn pretty rose cross stitch piece into a cushion cover, so say hello to my cross stitch rose cushion cover!

IMG_2448

The book has the chart for the Cross Stitch Rose and it’s a really quick pattern to stitch up once you get going. I stitched it on a Raw Sugar Mini Gingham (see below for links to supplies used).

IMG_2449

For the patchwork I picked some of my favourite fabrics from the Tilda Memory Lane and Cabbage Rose fabric collections and I very carefully fussy cut my pieces so the rabbits from the  Tilda Memory Lane Rabbit & Roses Teal would be front and centre in the corner pieces.

IMG_2241

The finished patchwork cover measures 9″ by 9″ so to increase the piece to a more cushion friendly 12 x 12 size I added two rounds of plain borders using 2 inch pieces of fabric (including seam allowances). Kerri’s book is packed full of projects including a patchwork cushion so once my patchwork piece was complete I followed her instructions to assemble the cushion cover which included quilting the patchwork to some wadding (I just stitched in the ditch), making the backing panel (I added a zip for ease of access) and then finally sewing the binding onto the cover and hand stitching it to the back panel.

IMG_2446

It was such a lovely project to stitch up and combining my three loves of cross stitch, patchwork and homemakeries I was one happy girl making it!

Cross Stitch Rose Cushion Cover Ingredients:
